Hi Nancy,We have email again today and have been trying to get mail out to people, so I wanted to write you a note to say we’re fine and busy trying to get things done right here. We had email last night for a few hours. That was the first time since we came back that we had it that long. We ran the generator At 9:30 we got an email from Guerda, saying her dad, Pastor Cebien, was coming back to Haiti TODAY. The plane is to come around 2:30 this afternoon. We didn’t tell the people in the yard. He always has so many wanting him right away, that we thought we’d just let him get here and then the people could know! There are two Americans also coming so we straightened up the apartment for them. Kathy is making Banana nut bread right now so the house will smell good.We got the RAT finally. We put poison out where Buddy couldn’t get it and the next day Kathy saw it in the bathroom. Five of our guys all crowded into the bathroom and finally killed it. Hopefully there is only one. We got our screens fixed about a week ago too. We haven’t seen any evidence of others yet, but we keep our eyes and ears open still. The ground still shakes each day in the Port au Prince area. We still get a few tremors here too, but it isn’t bad. This morning the kids told us someone came into the yard last night and STOLE the orphans plates We don’t know if that is true or not, but we did have extra plates here, so they still could eat their breakfast! There’s always something happening here!Customs asked us over $900.00 U.S. to clear the Christmas boxes (52). We refused to pay it since the U.N. said they could help. They later told us that since the boxes were not marked HUNANITARIAN AID they couldn’t help, but if they were marked that, they could just go to the airport and BUST the people trying to charge us customs ! We still haven’t gotten those boxes but hopefully tomorrow we willStan came to Haiti Tuesday and he got the container That is so exciting to have a wringer washing machine once again! What a help it is!I have emailed you so many letters and lost them when I tried to send them. That is so discouraging. We probably won’t start school until the middle or end of February. With all the emails etc, we couldn’t have it anyway. There are so many wanting to help. We got emails from the pastor’s kids from When we were missionaroes in West Virginia. We got emails from New Zealand,(Friends who used to be missionaries here-Dr. and Mrs. Bourche)- the Webers who went to Bob Jones with us from Brazil, Kathy’s cousin who is a missionary in Bangladesh, and so many other places too.The Calendar Party money was such a GOD SEND! So was the other money Leonard asked MFI to give us before we came in to Haiti. You couldn’t get checks cashed, but since we had CASH, we were able to get rice and beans and gas and diesel fuel, the day after the quake. Then we were able to feed people when they came here and also help so many others. Chris and Brad and Aaron from Pittsburgh came and brought some money too. They are the ones who were on channel 11 news and even took footage back to Pittsburgh with them. Chris just left yessterday. Brad got home Sunday and a news reporter was at the airport to meet him. People want to help. We hear the customs fee will be lifted if the things are marked for Humanitatrian aid, so anything you send- MARK it that way and also with our name. I think that will work. We are praying it will!We used over $12,000 U.S. this month to help the people. How exciting it is to just be a FUNNEL where the money comes and then the food can be bought, bagged and given out. So many are hurting. We know Haiti is the poorest country in the WORLD now, but there is still hope. Maybe now it can be helped!. The bags of dry food we are making costs $20.00 for one, It’s great to see how a little goes so FAR DOWN HERE!I must close for now. Lots of love and prayers, I am so glad we can be here helping right now. Hope Pastor Cebien is pleased when he gets here.Got to go for now.Love, AliceHi Nancy,We have email again today and have been trying to get mail out to people, so I wanted to write you a note to say we’re fine and busy trying to get things done right here.
